What grade of stainless steel are these winches made from?
The models in this collection use either grade 316 or grade 316L stainless steel, with the Gebuwin spur gear console winches using grade 304 for most external parts. Grade 316 and 316L offer superior resistance to chlorides and saltwater corrosion compared to grade 304, making them the preferred choice for marine, offshore and coastal applications. If you are unsure which grade is appropriate for your environment, the Winchshop team is happy to advise.
Are stainless steel manual winches suitable for food processing environments?
Yes. The non-porous surface of stainless steel, combined with its resistance to cleaning chemicals and moisture, makes these winches well suited to food processing, brewing and pharmaceutical applications where hygiene and corrosion resistance are both essential.
Can a stainless steel hand winch be used for lifting as well as pulling?
Yes, several models in this range are rated for both lifting and pulling, including the Goliath AFID and the Gebuwin MR SST316 worm gear series. Always confirm the rated lifting capacity for the specific model before use, as lifting and hauling capacities can differ. These winches are not rated for the lifting of people.
What is the difference between the Goliath AFID and the Gebuwin MR SST316?
The Goliath AFID is a spur gear stainless steel hoist winch suited to lifting and hauling up to 900kg, using a zinc-plated spur gear mechanism in a 316L stainless housing and available in column or base mount configurations. The Gebuwin MR SST316 is a worm gear design rated from 500kg up to 5,000kg, built to IP54 with grade 316 steel throughout and specifically designed for marine and offshore environments. The MR range is the heavier duty option and the better choice for the most demanding outdoor or saltwater exposure.
