What is a wall mounted spur gear winch and how does it differ from a worm gear winch?
A wall mounted spur gear winch uses straight-cut gears running parallel to the shaft axis, which gives it high transmission efficiency and relatively fast line speed for a given amount of cranking effort. A worm gear winch uses a different gear arrangement that creates more friction in the drive, which provides a self-locking effect at standstill but at the cost of efficiency. Spur gear winches are generally preferred where speed and ease of operation matter most, and where a separate load pressure brake is used to hold the load rather than relying on gear friction.
Are the Pfaff SW-W winches suitable for permanent indoor installation?
Yes. The SW-W range is specifically designed for fixed stationary mounting inside a building, making it well suited to permanent installation in workshops, warehouses, sports halls, theatres and similar environments. The zinc-plated finish and robust housing provide good long term durability in these settings.
Do these winches come with wire rope included?
No. All Pfaff SW-W winches are supplied without wire rope as standard. The recommended rope specification is DIN EN 12385 FE-znk 1770 sZ-spa. Wire rope is available to order separately, and the winch design allows the rope to be guided via deflection sheaves to suit your installation.
Which SW-W model should I choose for my application?
The right model depends primarily on the weight of the load you need to lift. The 80kg and 125kg models with aluminium housing are well suited to lighter, more compact installations, while the steel-plate models from 300kg upward are better suited to heavier or more demanding use.
