What does self-braking mean on the AFD hand winch?
The AFD is fitted with an automatic load pressure brake that engages as soon as you stop cranking. The load is held in position without any additional action from the operator and without the need to manually engage a ratchet or locking mechanism. The brake activates at a minimum load of 10kg and holds reliably in any position, making it a safe and practical hand winch for lifting and holding loads at height.
What is the difference between the lifting and hauling capacities?
The AFD range has different rated capacities depending on the task. Lifting capacity refers to vertical load, with a maximum of 1,180kg on the larger models. Hauling capacity refers to pulling a load along an incline, rated up to 2,500kg at a 20% incline. Always ensure you are using the correct figure for your application and that your load falls within the rated limit for the specific model you have chosen.
Does the AFD winch come supplied with wire rope?
No. The AFD is supplied as standard without wire rope. Wire rope is available to order separately, and the quick cable fixing system with included cable clamp makes fitting straightforward without needing to remove the drum.
What is the difference between the AFD and the AFID?
The AFD uses a zinc-plated finish across all components, offering good corrosion resistance for most indoor and sheltered outdoor applications. The AFID is constructed from stainless steel 316L throughout, making it the better choice for more exposed outdoor environments, marine applications, or anywhere with significant moisture or chemical exposure.
