Free Spool Winches

Our selection of free spool winches is designed for fast, efficient cable release and smooth control during setup or load handling. A free spool winch allows operators to quickly unwind cable by hand, reducing downtime and improving precision when positioning loads.

At Winchshop, we stock free spooling winch models from leading manufacturers, including Gebuwin, Wimag, Goliath, and Tiger Products. Options range from light-duty trailer winches like the Goliath TS Series to larger industrial designs such as the Gebuwin TC1500 Free Spool Winch.

For related options, you can also view our spur gear winches for precise gear-driven operation, stainless steel winches for corrosion-resistant performance, and pulling winches for horizontal cable handling.

Let customers speak for us

from 763 reviews

The pulley was just as I was wanting it has worked perfectly. I have recently refurbished the church bell on our historic church ,it had various problems . The main one being the pull rope was originally outside the building and needed redirecting inside hence the need for a pulley.

Finally, a hook that's got me hooked

I'll be honest — I never thought I'd be writing a love letter to a karabiner, yet here we are.
I work in soft play installations, which means I spend an uncomfortable amount of time clipping myself to padded and wrapped steel frameworks at height, trying not to think too hard about what's keeping me up there. My old hooks had other ideas — turns out they had no interest in fitting around anything thicker than a pencil, leaving me doing a sort of elaborate lanyard origami every time I needed to get some work done. Not ideal when you're dangling above a sea of foam blocks and plastic slides.
Enter the Alloy Steel Double Action Tower Hook. 85mm gate opening — wide enough to actually be useful. 23kN rated strength — strong enough that I've stopped quietly making peace with my life every time I clip on. It fits around padded and wrapped steel with about 3mm to spare, which in the world of work at height feels practically luxurious.
It's robust, reliable, and does exactly what it says on the tin — or in this case, the carabiner. No drama, no improvisation, no wrapping lanyards around things and hoping for the best.
If you work at height and need something that will actually grip what you need it to grip, stop scrolling. Your lanyard deserves better, and frankly, so do you.
10/10 — would not fall without it.

FAQs

What is a free spool winch used for?

A free spool winch allows operators to manually release cable without using the handle, making setup faster and easier when positioning or reeling out cable.

How does a free spooling winch work?

A free spooling winch disengages the drum from the gear mechanism, allowing the cable to unwind freely by hand. This function reduces resistance and speeds up preparation time.

Are free spool winches suitable for heavy loads?

Yes. Our free spool winches are available in various capacities, from light-duty trailer applications to larger industrial and marine systems.

Do you stock stainless steel free spool winches?

Yes. We offer corrosion-resistant models, including stainless steel options from Gebuwin, designed for outdoor and marine use.

Which brands supply your free spool winches?

We supply free spool winches from trusted manufacturers such as Goliath, Gebuwin, Tiger Products, Wimag, and Winch Products.
