Which winch is better for a washing line, the AG45 or the AG100?
For most domestic washing lines, the 45kg hand winch (AG45) is sufficient. However, if you have a longer clothes line, plan to hang heavy loads, or want extra headroom in the capacity, the 100kg hand winch (AG100) is a worthwhile upgrade. Both are aluminium hand winches with a corrosion-resistant finish, so both are well suited to outdoor wall mounting.
Can I mount these winches on an external wall?
Yes. The aluminium die-cast construction and powder-coated finish are specifically why these are such a popular hand operated winch wall mount solution for outdoor use. The removable crank handle also helps prevent water ingress when the winch is not in use. Standard wall screws are sufficient for mounting and no specialist fixings are required.
Will the winch hold my washing line in position without me holding the handle?
Yes. Both the AG45 and AG100 use a self-locking load-pressure brake. As long as the load on the wire rope is approximately 5 to 7% of the winch's rated capacity, which a typical clothes line will comfortably exceed, the crank will stop turning when you let go and the line will stay in place.
Can I use PVC-coated washing line cord instead of wire rope?
The manufacturer recommends against using PVC-coated cable, as it may slip within the drum. Uncoated galvanised wire rope, available in this collection by the metre, is the recommended option for reliable performance and longevity.
