Globestock Winches

The Globestock winch is a manually operated, hand-cranked winch designed and certified specifically for the routine raising and lowering of personnel. Unlike standard load winches, it is purpose-built for personnel lifting, making it the correct choice wherever workers need to be safely raised, lowered or retrieved in confined space or rescue applications.

Two Globestock winch models are available: a 250kg maximum working load version supplied with galvanised steel cable and karabiner in rope lengths of 20m or 40m, and a 200kg model fitted with 40m of corrosion-resistant stainless steel cable, suited to environments where salt air or moisture could compromise a standard galvanised rope over time.

Both models share the same core design, featuring a high-efficiency gear mechanism for a smooth, light cranking action and an anti-run braking system that locks automatically if the winding arm is released mid-lift, holding the person securely in position until the handle is turned again by the operator. The Globestock winch is also rated for general load lifting in addition to its primary personnel lifting role.

For other personnel lifting solutions, our Personnel Lifting Winches collection covers additional certified options. For the full range of Globestock safety tripods, see our Safety Tripods and Winches.

Finally, a hook that's got me hooked

I'll be honest — I never thought I'd be writing a love letter to a karabiner, yet here we are.
I work in soft play installations, which means I spend an uncomfortable amount of time clipping myself to padded and wrapped steel frameworks at height, trying not to think too hard about what's keeping me up there. My old hooks had other ideas — turns out they had no interest in fitting around anything thicker than a pencil, leaving me doing a sort of elaborate lanyard origami every time I needed to get some work done. Not ideal when you're dangling above a sea of foam blocks and plastic slides.
Enter the Alloy Steel Double Action Tower Hook. 85mm gate opening — wide enough to actually be useful. 23kN rated strength — strong enough that I've stopped quietly making peace with my life every time I clip on. It fits around padded and wrapped steel with about 3mm to spare, which in the world of work at height feels practically luxurious.
It's robust, reliable, and does exactly what it says on the tin — or in this case, the carabiner. No drama, no improvisation, no wrapping lanyards around things and hoping for the best.
If you work at height and need something that will actually grip what you need it to grip, stop scrolling. Your lanyard deserves better, and frankly, so do you.
10/10 — would not fall without it.

FAQs

Is the Globestock winch certified for lifting people?

Yes. The Globestock winch is specifically certified for the lifting and lowering of personnel and may also be used for general load lifting. It is CE marked and built to meet the applicable safety standards for personnel winches. It is important to note that standard load winches are not rated for personnel lifting and should not be used for this purpose.

What happens if the operator lets go of the handle during lifting?

The Globestock winch is fitted with an anti-run braking mechanism that activates automatically if the winding arm is released at any point during the lift. The load is held securely in place until the operator resumes cranking. This is a critical safety feature that distinguishes a dedicated personnel winch from a standard hand winch.

Can the Globestock winch be used for non-personnel load lifting?

Yes. While the Globestock winch is primarily designed and certified for personnel lifting, it is also suitable for general load lifting within its rated working load. If your application is purely for load lifting without any personnel lifting requirement, our broader range of manual hand winches may offer a more cost-effective solution.
